Sustainable packaging: Eco-friendly shopping bags

The Bag Ladies, a company that produces custom-printed shopping bags for businesses and Hollywood celebrities, has introduced a line of earth-friendly bags. Included among them are reusable non-woven totes, canvas and nylon bags, and enviro-sacks, which are 100 percent recycled brown kraft paper.

Partners Sheryl Goldie and Linda Hollander have been printing shopping bags since 1988. Their clients include entertainment industry giants such as Disney, CBS, Variety, Columbia Tri-Star, Universal Studios, and Warner Brothers. They've created promotional bags for a wide range of corporate clients, including Sears, Ocean Spray, Mattel, Yamaha, and Nissan.

Forging a unique blend of marketing and environmental responsibility, Bag Ladies makes the case that the two activities are highly complementary. “By placing a logo on a bag, you're adding value to your brand,” said Goldie. “With Green Packaging, you're telling your customers that you care about the environment."

She also adds that with the growing concern for ecological issues, many people keep and re-use shopping bags. This gives companies more advertising value for their printed bags.
