Alejandro Cedeño Named Vice President, Global Innovation for MWV
MeadWestvaco Corp. has named Alejandro ("Alex") Cedeño vice president, Global Innovation, effective October 16, 2009. In this new role, Mr. Cedeño will be located at MWV's Center for Packaging Innovation (CPI) in Raleigh, N.C., where he will oversee the CPI and will also be responsible for implementing and managing an enhanced innovation process across MWV.
Mr. Cedeño comes to MWV from a distinguished career at Procter & Gamble, where he was involved in technology, product, process and packaging research and development, as well as brand management and new business development. He has worked in several of P&G's businesses, including Beauty Care, Home Care, and Fabric Care, and has led product and package design efforts for global and regional brands. Most recently, he led Package and Device development for P&G's North American Fabric Care business, as well as for new fabric care product launches globally. In addition, he was responsible for packaging R&D for the Global Liquid Fabric Enhancers business.
Nordson Announces Expanded Roles for Executive Corporate Officers John J. Keane and Peter G. Lambert
Nordson Corporation announced an expansion of duties for two of its executive officers, Senior Vice President John J. Keane and Vice President Peter G. Lambert. The changes follow the previously announced retirement of Vice President Michael Groos, who will leave his position leading the company's European Adhesive Dispensing Systems organization and officially end his 30 year career with Nordson on November 30, 2009.
Effective December 1, 2009, Senior Vice President John Keane, 48, will add to his current global responsibilities leading the Advanced Technology Systems segment. Specifically, Keane will add responsibility for the company's Nordson DAGE and Nordson EFD product lines to his current responsibility for the Nordson ASYMTEK, Nordson YESTECH and Nordson MARCH product lines.
Also effective December 1, 2009, Vice President Peter Lambert, 49, has been elected Senior Vice President with global responsibility for the Adhesive Dispensing Systems segment. Lambert is currently Vice President with responsibility for the Nordson EFD and Nordson DAGE product lines within the Advanced Technology Systems segment, duties which will become the responsibility of Keane.
Haver Filling Systems Inc. assembles first of its Integra packaging systems
Haver Filling Systems Inc. has assembled its first Haver Integra packaging system. The new facility, which is scheduled to be finished by end of January 2010, aims to serve Haver Filling Systems' U.S. customers with locally manufactured and assembled machines.
In addition to the Haver Integra the facility will manufacture new machine types as dictated by customer demand. The manufacturer says the Conyers, GA, facility will add production, engineering and drafting jobs to the state's economy. Haver Filling Systems also expects the facility to add approximately $5 million to the Georgia economy over the next two to three years. The company tempers its projections by stating that its forecasts are subject to economic conditions.
Hi-Cone introduces new corporate identity
Hi-Cone, www.hi-cone.com, a global leader in packaging systems, has a new corporate look to convey its core message that for consumer goods companies, their customers and long-term sustainability, less packaging is the best packaging.
The new corporate look was unveiled at the recent Drinktec exhibition in Munich. For nearly fifty years, Hi-Cone has served consumer goods industries with minimal packaging systems that use plastic ring carriers. Through the years, Hi-Cone's packaging has adapted to new products, package configurations and shapes for cans, glass and plastic containers. The new company motto is Min = Max to convey that Hi-Cone's minimal packaging offers maximum value for consumer appeal and business success.

Mocon opens testing lab in Mumbai, India
MOCON, Inc. is partnering with Hemetek Techno Instruments, Mumbai, India to establish a certified testing lab there. The lab officially opens January 2010.
Hemetek, a well-respected package testing and instrumentation representative, will be operating the first independent, MOCON-certified lab. The lab will be offering barrier and headspace analysis, leak detection and burst testing for food, beverage and pharmaceutical/medical packaging. The water vapor, oxygen and carbon dioxide permeation testing services are also intended for manufacturers and converters of rigid and flexible packaging containers and films.
Biopack Announces its First Distributor in Canada
Biopack Environmental has entered into its first distribution agreement in Canada with Sonray Sales Ltd. Sonray was founded more than 30 years ago, providing a long-term loyal commitment to the product lines it represents. Since its inception, Sonray has developed a strong client roster of wholesalers, retailers, supermarket-chains, and food service providers throughout Canada and abroad.

Closure Systems International Announces Expansion in India
To meet the rapidly increasing demand for beverage closures in India, Closure Systems International (CSI) announced that it will open a plastic closure plant near the city of Bangalore, in the state of Karnataka, in southern India. The plant is scheduled to begin production in early 2010. It will be the second CSI plant dedicated to serving the India market and the 31st closure production plant in the global CSI system. The plant will include the latest in closure manufacturing technology, as well as a flexible plant design that provides the capability to scale up capacity quickly and efficiently in the future. Employment opportunities at the manufacturing facility along with local sourcing of raw materials from within India will also provide a favorable economic impact to the region.
Kimberly-Clark teams with TerraCycle for school recycling program
Kimberly-Clark Corporation has joined forces with upcycling firm TerraCycle to enhance the sustainability performance of some of its product packaging. The new program between K-C and TerraCycle also creates fundraising programs which benefit schools and communities nationwide.
The company's partnership with TerraCycle creates new programs that allow participants to earn funds for their selected charity of choice for every used piece of plastic packaging associated with Scott or Huggies brands that they collect. The collected plastic packaging will be upcycled into affordable, high-quality products available next year at major retailers nationwide.

International Paper Announces Retirements, New Assignments
International Paper announced several retirements and new assignments among its senior management.
Printing & Communications Papers and IP Latin America
Wayne Brafford, senior vice president, Printing & Communications Papers, announced his retirement, effective Dec. 31, 2009. With Brafford's retirement, Mark Sutton, currently senior vice president of Global Supply Chain, will become senior vice president, Printing & Communications Papers the Americas. Sutton began his career with IP in 1984 and also has served as vice president of European Container, vice president of strategic planning and senior vice president of global supply chain.
Consumer Packaging and IP Asia
Mike Balduino, senior vice president, Consumer Packaging, and Tom Gestrich, senior vice president and president, IP Asia, also announced their retirements, effective Dec. 31, 2009. With their retirements, Tom Kadien, currently senior vice president and president, xpedx, will become senior vice president, Consumer Packaging and IP Asia, with responsibility for the company's Coated Paperboard, Foodservice, Shorewood Packaging and IP Asia businesses. Kadien has been with IP more than 30 years and has held additional leadership positions in the company's Papers and IP Europe businesses.

Mary Laschinger, currently senior vice president and president, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Russia, will become senior vice president and president, xpedx. Laschinger has been with IP since 1992 and has held leadership positions in Specialty Papers, Pulp and Wood Products.
IP Europe
Maximo Pacheco, currently senior vice president and president of IP Brazil and Latin America, will become senior vice president and president, IP Europe, Middle East, Africa and Russia. Pacheco has been with the company since 1994 and also has held executive leadership roles in Carter Holt Harvey Chile as well as IP Latin America.
RockTenn Chairman and CEO Jim Rubright Named First Ever Global CEO of the Year in Pulp and Paper International Awards Ceremony
RockTenn Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jim Rubright was named the first ever Global CEO of the Year at the 2009 Pulp & Paper International (PPI) Awards held October 28, 2009 in Munich, Germany. The PPI Awards honor the leadership, vision, innovation and strategic accomplishments of companies, mills and individuals within the global pulp and paper industry. The Global CEO of the Year honor was awarded by a panel of judges made up of industry veterans.
SCA Packaging Challenges Students With the Second Edition of the Design Challenge
After a successful first edition, SCA Packaging continues to encourage young talents to present their innovative ideas to the packaging industry. Design Challenge 2009 kicks off on November 1st 2009. This year's challenge: create a lean, slick, 'fat free' packaging design, taking complexity out and leaving the lowest environmental footprint possible.
Some 500 students out of 23 countries in Europe subscribed to the SCA Packaging Design Challenge last year. In the end, 90 concepts were submitted out of which 10 were short listed. Two participants were even offered a full time position at SCA.
Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc. Names Edward J. Lopez Chief Diversity Officer
Coca-Cola Enterprises today announced that Edward J. Lopez has been named Chief Diversity Officer, effective November 1. Mr. Lopez will oversee the company's global diversity initiatives, and will report to Pam Kimmet, Senior Vice President, Human Resources. Previously, he served as Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications for the company.
Before joining CCE in 2007, Mr. Lopez served on the New Mexico Governor's cabinet as Cabinet Secretary and Superintendent of Regulation and Licensing. From 2000 to 2004, he was President of the National Hispanic Cultural Center Foundation's Board of Trustees.
