Dart Container Corp. launches Illinois' first foam recycling public drop-off facility
Dart Container Corporation of Illinois has unveiled its latest post-consumer foam recycling drop-off site - the first in the state. As one of a growing number of regions to be equipped with foam recycling infrastructure, the free drop-off will pioneer a new way for Illinois residents, businesses and organizations to use and reuse foam with the number 6 on it.
This is the state's first public site to accept foam food service containers, including foam cups, plates, take-out containers, egg cartons, as well as shaped or molded foam often used to package electronics. This effort, Dart's 10th drop-off location in the country, will divert foam from area landfills and allow it to be recycled into new products such as picture frames and moldings.
Nordson Corporation Scheduled to present at Oppenheimer Industrials Conference
Nordson Corporation announced that it is scheduled to present at the Oppenheimer Industrials Conference in New York on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 8:00 AM Eastern time.
Nordson's scheduled presenter is Chairman, President and CEO Edward Campbell. A live webcast of the presentation will be accessible on Nordson's web site at www.nordson.com/investors. The webcast will remain archived on the site for 30 days.
Dow Chemical Company will present paper on Designed Diffusion (DD) technology at the European Coatings Conference
Dow Coating Materials, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, will present a paper on Designed Diffusion (DD) technology titled "Synergistic Waterborne Acrylic Urethane Systems" at the European Coatings Conference from 12-13 November in Berlin, Germany.
The European Coatings Conferences draw an international audience of industry professionals for an intensive exploration of coatings topics. At each conference, experts from leading companies and research institutes around the world are invited to give technical presentations. PMMI names new board member, executive committee
The PMMI membership elected four new members to the PMMI Board of Directors. In addition, the Board of Directors elected its Executive Committee for 2010. PMMI's bylaws require the Board to reflect the composition of the PMMI membership in terms of geography and company size. Their four-year terms will begin January 1, 2010.
Ben Garvey, General Manager, Garvey Corporation
A PMMI member since 1969, Garvey Corporation is based in Blue Anchor, New Jersey, placing it in the North East region of the country. Its annual revenues are between $6 million and $20 million. Ben Garvey serves on the Business Intelligence Committee, and is a founding member of our Young Executives Network.
Sharron Gilbert, President & CEO, Septimatech Group Inc.
Septimatech is based in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, and therefore located in the North East region as well. The company reports between $6 million and $20 million in annual revenues, and has been a PMMI member since 1997. Sharron Gilbert has served on the show committee, and has been involved in planning numerous annual meetings and executive leadership conferences.
Timothy McCarthy, Vice President, Kinsley Inc.
Kinsley Inc., another North East member, is based in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. It has sales up to $6 million annually, and has been a PMMI member since 1972. Timothy McCarthy is an active participant on PMMI's membership committee.
Michael A. Senske, President - CEO, Pearson Packaging Systems
Pearson Packaging Systems is based in Spokane, Washington, which is in the North West region. Each year, the company brings in more than $20 million in revenue. Pearson joined PMMI in 1979. Michael A. Senske is a member of the Education & Workforce Development Committee.

Clear Lam Packaging, Inc. Announces New Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Thermoformed Products
Dale Sprosty has joined Clear Lam as the new Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Thermoformed Products. Mr. Sprosty brings with him many years of experience most recently with PWP and Wilkinson. Clear Lam employs 750 people in 7 plants located in the United States and China.
Asymtek Changes its Brand Identity to Nordson ASYMTEK
Asymtek, a leader in dispensing, coating, and jetting technologies, announces that it will soon begin a process of refreshing its visual brand identity and be known as Nordson ASYMTEK. This modification is part of an initiative by its parent company, Nordson Corporation, to identify its businesses in the marketplace more clearly and consistently. All other aspects of what was formerly called "Asymtek" will remain the same.
The Nordson ASYMTEK identity changes will be phased in and are expected to be completed in 18 months. The updated identity will include a new logo, new designs for marketing materials, and a name modification to Nordson ASYMTEK.
SCA Sells Pratovecchio Paper Machine
SCA has reached an agreement to sell its Italian Pratovecchio facility and paper machine to Cartiera Carma. The transaction will not result in neither capital gain nor capital loss.
The agreement follows an announcement in March 2009 aimed at improving supply-chain operations in Italy. A concentration of resources to nearby Lucca was decided and implemented. At that stage, a closure of the Pratovecchio paper machine was discussed. However, SCA has instead reached an agreement to sell the property and paper machine to Cartiera Carma, a privately-owned company based in Italy.
The paper machine has a capacity of approximately 20,000 tons per year, and the 24 employees currently working in paper making will continue their employment. The transaction will become final before the end of December 2009.
PlastiPure Receives $1.1 Million in Grant Funding
PlastiPure announced today that it received a $1.1 million grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health and Safety (NIEHS) to continue development and commercialization of plastics that do not leach chemicals with estrogenic activity (EA). PlastiPure will use these federal funds to expand its line of innovative materials and products that are free from EA (EA-Free(TM)).

Ball to Acquire Partner's Interest in Beverage Packaging Plant in China
Ball Corporation announced that it has agreed to acquire Guangdong Jianlibao Group Co., Ltd.'s 65 percent interest in a joint venture metal beverage can and end plant in Sanshui, China. Ball has owned 35 percent of the joint venture plant since 1992.
Ball will acquire the plant and related assets for approximately $90 million in cash and assumed debt. The company also entered into a long-term supply agreement with Jianlibao. The transaction is expected to close next year, subject to customary regulatory approvals.

Smurfit-Stone Appoints Michael Exner Senior Vice President and General Manager, Containerboard Mill Division
Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation has announced the appointment of Michael Exner as senior vice president and general manager of the company's Containerboard Mill division, effective January 1, 2010. Exner reports to Steve Klinger, Smurfit-Stone's president and chief operating officer.
Exner's distinguished career in the paper industry spans 31 years and includes a variety of leadership positions with International Paper and Boise-Cascade Corporation. Most recently, he served as International Paper's vice president of manufacturing for Containerboard.
Fraser Papers Completes Modernization Project Announces Restart at Plaster Rock Lumbermill
Fraser Papers Inc. announced today that its lumbermill in Plaster Rock, New Brunswick is scheduled to restart operations on November 16, 2009. Approximately 175 employees have been recalled to work.
The Plaster Rock lumbermill recently completed a CAD$17.6 million modernization that included the installation of a new biomass fueled boiler, a new lumber drying kiln and upgraded saw line equipment. The project, completed under budget, will eliminate the mill's dependence on oil and lower its conversion costs by approximately 20%. It was financed through a commercial loan made by the Business and Financial Support Group of Business New Brunswick, which has a mandate to fund initiatives that improve energy efficiency and productivity at existing business operations in New Brunswick.
