According to BIGresearch's December 2009 "Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey," by WorkPlace Media, the economy seems to be putting pressure on employees to work and perform through any upper respiratory illnesses during this year's cough-cold season.
More than half of working consumers are either extremely concerned or moderately concerned about the 2009 Flu/Cold season, suggesting increased spending on prevention and remedies. But 90 percent of workers report that their company has employees who come to work sick with the flu or a cold.
The survey also indicated that both employed and unemployed Americans were asked how often they bought cough-cold and flu medication, and in every instance, employed Americans indicated more purchases. When compared to the general population, employed consumers purchased OTC cough medication 28 percent more frequently on a weekly basis (20 percent for OTC cold and flu medication).
The
brands workers favored most are Vicks for cold and flu symptoms and Robitussin for cough relief. But 54 percent of Americans make brand purchasing decisions when they are at the store shelf, the survey found.

There is a great, safe and drug-free germ-prevention method to keep away cold and flu - Germ Smarts for Kids. The kids learn how to both avoid AND keep from spreading germs. Since my child learned this at daycare, we no longer play the "pass the germs" game! We have only had 1 cold all fall after our child learned with this program – last year same time 3.
