Portion-packed foods may be a popular trend in packaging weight-control food products, but the practice is seeing some backlash. Consumers bemoan the environmental impact of portion-controlled packs versus multi-serve packs, as well as the added costs associated with this packaging practice.

In Australia, Yoplait has created a solution to this problem with the launch of its Elivae Prebiotic Strawberry Yogurt in a 100-mm deep PP tub, supplied byVisy Packaging (www.visy.com.au). The tubs use windowed in-mold labeling to clearly mark each of the seven yogurt servings, resulting in consumer convenience without packaging guilt.
