Bio-based plastics

Posted by Jenni Spinner, Senior Editor -- Packaging Digest, 9/24/2012 10:16:00 AM

Bio-based plastics from FKuRThe company offers a range of biodegradable, biobased and natural fiber-reinforced plastics. The polyethylene (PET) used for Green PE is made from Brazilian sugarcane, rather than not crude oil. According to the company, using this renewable raw material means that each production of 1 ton of the material captures up to 2.4 tons of CO₂ from the atmosphere, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Also, the company claims that the material and Terralene PET are 100-percent compatible with regular polyethylene and show identical properties, and they can be processed in existing recycling streams.
