Singer inspires snack packaging that pops

Jenni Spinner, Senior Editor -- Packaging Digest, 3/1/2013 3:29:00 PM

KatyPop star Katy Perry is known for a fun, flavourful sense of style. After signing onto snack brand Popchips as an investor and creative partner in July 2012, the singer has worked closely with the company to create a signature snack flavor that reflected her sweet/salty style.

"When she told us she wanted to create her own flavor, we couldn't wait to get started," says Keith Belling, co-founder and CEO of Popchips. "Katy's Kettle Corn is a delicious reflection of her unique personality and continues Popchips' position as a leading innovator in the snack aisle."

The end result is a popped corn chip with a balance between sweet and salty notes. The packaging also reflects her personality, with pink and purple accents (Perry's favorite colors), a spotlight that evokes the concert stage and a heart over the "I" in the Popchips logo. The back of the pack includes a personal message from Perry and a quick response (QR) code that directs the consumer to special Katy Perry content online. The laminated film bags are printed rotogravure by Innovative Packaging Solutions.

Bags of Katy's Kettle Corn first hit retail shelves at Target and other select retailers beginning in mid-February. The product also is available on the Popchips website.
