Label encoder/applicator

-- Packaging Digest, 9/1/2006

The Alpha RFID smart-label applicator/encoder automatically encodes, verifies and applies p-s RFID labels to cartons in-line at high production rates. The co. says if the system determines that a tag isn't verifiable, it will be rejected before application and be retained on the liner. Reportedly as a smart label is unwound and approaches the unit's wipe-on applicator, an RFID encoder transmits data to a thin UHF tag embedded between the label material and liner. Smart labels are generated up to 4.72 in. W and 6 in. L with a reported accuracy of ±0.04 in. The system is said to provide high-quality smart labeling to help meet RFID supply-chain requirements of retailers and government agencies, including EPC Gen 1 and Gen 2.
