Inspection system

-- Packaging Digest, 4/1/2006

The Optyx® SG is a high-speed, automatic, optical-inspection system for softgel capsules. Designed to detect and remove defective and foreign capsules from the product stream, the device verifies color, size and shape to ensure that every capsule conforms to product specifications. Further, the co. notes, with ultra-high-resolution, 0.17-mm-sq pixels, it reliably detects and removes foreign capsules as well as the smallest color and shape defects, including air bubbles and stained and misshapen capsules. Using two- and four-camera formats, the system has a series of air jets spaced 6 mm apart that pinpoint and remove the defective object at speeds to 900,000 softgels/hr, the co. says. The system is designed to meet FDA requirements and comply with GAMP 4 guidelines.
