The
RFID Europe 2008 conference, which will be held from Sept. 30 to Oct. 1 in Cambridge, England, is attracting opinion leaders from across industries and around the world. Vidar Kvalheim from Norway will describe how ISO15693 HF RFID was used to control hospital textiles inventories; Brian Dobson of Transport for London (TfL) will give a status report of the London Oyster card program, which is one of the largest transportation RFID card programs in the western world; and IDTechEx chairman Dr Peter Harrop will cover apparel RFID in general.
UHF RFID technologies also will be explored with three companies planning to announce technology breakthroughs at the conference. Selexyz, which claims to be the world's largest user of UHF RFID in bookshops, will have a representative speak at the conference.
New RFID technologies will be discussed by eight other companies, and eight countries currently are represented in the investment summit speaker lineup. According to conference organizers, the new technology announcements will include a breakthrough in Real Time Location Systems (RTLS) that offers precision locating for multiple assets while only needing a single watch battery for power for more than six years. This standards-compliant (IEEE 802.15.4a) system is able to leverage mesh capability with superior range at a data rate of 6.8Mbps.
