Bottled Water Industry Under Fire
July 14, 2008

The bottled water industry is in for a fight and it’s really starting to warm up. For evidence of that, look no further than our news story today about Congress considering water packaged in biodegradable containers.

It’s just the latest in a growing litany. The general public and legislators are increasingly taking note of the bottled water industry. And when you think about it, the attention perhaps couldn’t be unexpected. Bottled water is a huge industry that grew like gangbusters over the last decade or so, and it's certain to draw attention just by its very size and economic impact.

There are significant pros and cons to the subject, and groups on both sides are presenting compelling points that are well supported. But, like any polarizing issue, it can be difficult to obtain unbiased news about it.

The International Bottled Water website has a News section, but the reporting tends to be heavily slanted in favor of the bottled water industry.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has a very good PDF overview on bottled water. It doesn't really offer any news, but it's nonetheless an excellent starting point for anyone interested in bottled water.

Personally, I think the best source of news on bottled water is the Bottled Water News section of WaterTechOnline.com. Although the site is primarily for the benefit of companies involved in water packaging and distribution, the news coverage is nonetheless fairly unbiased and direct. It’s also updated relatively frequently.
