Success begets success

March 3, 2009

I am certain that you all have had those days (or perhaps even WEEKS) where you can’t get anyone on the phone and those you do get either hang up, put you off, or tell you to call someone else. It is a difficult stretch to go through and especially difficult when it happens day after day, week after week. 28 years in Sales has given me many such stretches. That’s what makes the good periods so special….

I had a "career" day on Wednesday, one of those times when every call brought in a new customer. Yesterday, the trend continued as I nearly equalled the volume from the day before. And just to prove that success begets success, I bought a lottery ticket (which I NEVER do!) and it hit for $100. I went to bed laughing. Crazy. Just crazy.

This experience reinforces my already inpenetrable belief that if I can keep my attitude up in that "I am on a winning streak" stratosphere, that it will permeate into my voice and out to my clients. The customer can hear your every emotion. If you are afraid; if your sales suck; if you are desperate as a result, then it will all be made apparent to the customer. Believe in yourself! Sell with that belief in your head.

Finally, this week further convinces me that GREAT days are the result of a lot of "consistent effort" days. As hard as it is to do, you need to believe that those hang ups/voice mail/go away stretches will lead you to periods when it rains business.

Some times—no—make that MANY times, I wonder what the hell I was thinking when I became a sales rep. The frustration can be overbearing. And then a week like this happens and I am reminded just how great a career choice this can be.

Keep the faith, kids!

Training to run for a marathon can be very intimidating, especially if this the first time attempting to run a marathon, like myself. As my mileage is small in the beginning of my training, sometimes I can’t help but wonder how in the world I will be ready to run for 26.2 miles, much less run it in a particular time

Any day that you wake up , and do not find your friends gathered around, looking down on you and throwing flowers in your face, while saying kind things about you is a GREAT DAY!

Sales is all about contact - constantly. In the olden days before the Internet we used to phone, fax, mail by postal carrier, visit accounts and close a sale. In today's world 2010 it's all about social networking, skyping, phoning, networking and trying to get a response. As one whom at www.mhgroup.com who has tried it both ways - I'm now convinced you can't put too many brochures, business cards, faxes, regular postal carrier mail, email, social networking, etc., in front of potential clients or current clients, one contact to keep in their wallet, one on the rolodex - or computer data file, one near the cell phone -we use www.mhgroup.mobi to get into your cell phone, we send one card to keep on your desk in a stack, three to pass on to another contact or contacts, and a couple of more replacement ones just in case you lose track of us. Yes success begets success - but in today's world you need 30 hours in a day to keep up with it on a 24/7/365 basis.

Thank you Mr. Farquharson for the reminder. I woke up this morning and knew today would be a good day. Not because I will get sales but simply because I woke up. I am happy because I am me therefore people are happy to be around me.
