Bosch Packaging to acquire Ampack Ammann
Bosch Packaging Technology intends to acquire Ampack Ammann, a German provider and manufacturer of filling/packaging machines for liquid and paste-like foods. Equipment developed and produced by Ampack Ammann includes cup and bottle filling machines, and dosing systems and peripheral machinery. The equipment is mainly used to fill and pack highly sensitive food such as dairy products, baby food, and hospital food, but also dosable products such as cereals. The also company has conducted its own research in the field of aseptics and run a microbiology test laboratory since 2005. "Ampack Ammann is a technological leader in the area of low-germ and aseptic processing of pre-formed cups and bottles; with the acquisition of Ampack Ammann we will be able to complement our existing product portfolio in this segment," says Friedbert Klefenz, president of the Bosch Packaging Technology division.

American Packaging Corp. receives recycling award
American Packaging Corp.'s flexo printing and laminating facility in Story City, IA, was one of ten Iowa organizations and businesses to receive an Excellence in Recycling award from the Iowa Recycling Association . The awards program recognizes facilities with programs, projects, and individuals exhibiting forward-thinking waste management and recycling practices. "As a team we embraced sustainability, and it is one of our core values. In less than a year, this facility recycled 2,899,859 lbs. of waste, which equates to reducing 6,264 tons of CO2," says Ray Graham, Operations Manager for the facility.

Freund Container opens Nevada warehouse
Packaging supplier Freund Container & Supply, a division of Berlin Packaging, has opened a new warehouse in Sparks, NV, intended to provide customers in western states savings on shipping costs and transit times. "Our Sparks, NV, location reduces transit times by as much as four business days and lowers freight rates by as much as 55 percent," says general manager Chris Hiller.

The MATLET Group adds digital package printing services
The MATLET Group, a Pawtucket, RI-based packaging printing/manufacturing operation, has purchased a wide-format HP Indigo digital press. Expected to be installed in Jan. 2013, the press will be one of the first platforms in North America for commercial printing, and one of the first in the world used to produce folding cartons. "Providing the utmost in service to print customers is more important today than ever before--so is having digital capability, but it is absolutely essential to differentiate yourself in the market," says president/CEO Gary Stiffler. "We believe this new platform will help us achieve our goals."
