Classic lager returns to iconic teardrop bottle
Anheuser-Busch is introducing Michelob Lager and Michelob Light in elegantly re-designed embossed teardrop bottles based on the original package launched in 1961. "The teardrop bottle was originally created to make the beer immediately identifiable in even a darkened bar or restaurant, and we're going back to those roots," said Eduardo Pereda, director of marketing, Michelob Family, Anheuser-Busch, Inc. "We think the tradition of the new bottles and the all-malt recipes will give adult beer drinkers two great reasons to rediscover Michelob."

Coca-Cola Bottling to cut work force
Soda bottler Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated will simplify its management structure and trim its work force by the end of the month, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing Wednesday. In the filing, the company said it will make the changes to improve 'operating efficiencies' throughout the business. 'These changes will allow the company to better compete in the marketplace,' the company said. The company did not say how many employees would be affected.

Gumlink unwraps savings with production management software
When Vejle, Denmark-based Gumlink A/S decided to sell its famous chewing gum brands and manufacture products for other companies instead, the production and automation teams helped to drive the transformation. Manufacturing for business customers required a greater degree of flexibility and efficiency to handle many different gum products and packaging. To help transform its packaging lines, Gumlink turned to GE Fanuc for a Production Management software solution, which has enabled the company to access key metrics for improved decision-making, increase production efficiency by 10 percent, drive the flexibility and scalability needed to introduce new products quickly and achieve payback in less than three months.

HP's redesigned ink, toner packaging to reduce greenhouse
gas emissions

HP announces today that its redesigned print cartridge packaging for North America will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated
37 million pounds in 2007—the equivalent of taking 3,600 cars off the road for one year, the co. says. The emissions savings are the result of smaller, lighter packages that both reduce the total carbon footprint of each cartridge and the truck and freighter transportation traffic required to ship them. Newer packaging also contains more recyclable and recycled content.
