A 'butter' way to palletize
California Dairies, Inc. is the number-one dairy cooperative in California and the second largest in the U.S. California Dairies' plant in Turlock, CA, processes up to 5.7 million lb of milk/day and produces more than 110 million lb of butter/year, which is about 275,000 lb of butter/day. Last year, Turlock automated the entire butter-line palletizing operation with a system that includes two four-axis EPL160 Expert Palletizing robots. Read more...

Climate change could alter taste of Oregon wines
Climate change could lead to hotter, drier heat waves, heavier rains and quicker snowmelts in the future, scientists say—and a change in the taste of Oregon's signature pinot noir wines also could be on the horizon. Vintners are already shifting their vines uphill to keep them cool during warmer summers. But researchers forecast that by the end of this century, pinot noir grapes, the centerpiece of the state's $1 billion wine industry, will grow better along Washington's Puget Sound than they do in the Willamette Valley. Performance-based inspection system (PBIS) – Version 5.1.6
FSIS has modified PBIS so that completing plant profile extensions and surveys will be done as part of the scheduled food safety activities of FSIS inspection program personnel. In December, 2006, FSIS will begin using PBIS Version 5.1.6. This notice explains the changes made to PBIS and provides instructions to inspection program personnel to use this version of PBIS. The major changes in PBIS 5.1.6 relate to Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) non-compliance reports (NR), the addition of procedure result codes and the addition of a new code to document that a new profile extension or survey has been completed or an existing profile extension has been completed.
