The report, "Drinks Biopackaging 2007," examines the role of compostable biopackaging in the global drinks industry, focusing on how effort and investment are necessary if it is really to become a viable option for manufacturers. The market for this kind of packaging jumped 150 percent in 2006, the report said. Maine's largest supermarket chain goes green
Last month, Maine's largest supermarket chain, Hannaford, announced it is building the first completely "green" supermarket. It will meet the highest industry environmental standards and will be the first "green" grocery store in the world. The design of the building includes solar panels, geothermal heating and cooling, energy efficient lighting, a recycling program and a rooftop garden designed to insulate and control rainwater. "Students for Recycling" project collects 70.6 million plastic bottles
Students across the country collected 70.6 million plastic (PET) bottles as part of "Students for Recycling," a national school-based PET recycling program that turns plastic bottles into backpacks for kids.
