Aquafina labels to spell out tap water source
The U.S. manufacturer of Aquafina bottled water will soon revise the product's label to clearly show the drink is made with treated tap water. Aquafina bottles sold in the U.S. are now labeled "PWS," but the new labels will spell this out as "Public Water Source," the brand's owner PepsiCo says. A bottle of Aquafina sold in Canada currently shows the source as "water from the public distribution of Mississauga," but the company says it also uses a public source of water in Vancouver. 'Environmental' wine merchant fined for not recycling
An "environmentally conscious" wine merchant in North London, whose staff members drive "green" Toyota Prius cars, has been fined more than £40,000 for failing to recycle packaging waste. Berkmann Wine Cellars, based in Highbury, pleaded guilty to charges under the packaging producer responsibility regulations, after being caught by the Environment Agency for not registering as a producer of packaging under the regulations. Mixed reaction to proposed plastic bag ban in Annapolis, MD
More than 70 people attended a public meeting concerning a bill that would ban plastic bags in Annapolis, MD. Stores would be required to offer recycled paper bags in an effort to protect the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries, where birds and fish often are killed when they ingest plastic bags. Shoppers support the idea of a plastic bag ban because of their concern for the environment, but an industry group says the bags have many uses and recycling is a better option. Read more...
