PET 2012

When: 02/20/2012 - 02/20/2012

Location: Tverskaya st., 3 Moscow, Russian Federation

This event will be devoted to problems and perspectives of Russian and global market of polyethylene terephthalate. The domestic PET market has negatively surprised players last year as the volumes of consumption remained almost the same. Effects of post-crisis postponed demand and extremely hot 2010 summer have faded out.

Russian PET market is not growing anymore. Moreover, it could shrink dramatically taking into account recent proposals of ban of alcohol bottling in PET as beer industry have been one of the major consumers of PET preforms. It’s unclear whether Russia will ban plastic beer bottles following the same laws in Kazakhstan. However, the state policy with the goal to reduce alcohol consumption and beer consumption in particular will likely be continued.

What does it mean for PET industry? Will the falling demand be compensated by other “bottle areas” of the market: bottled, mineral and soda waters, food oils, juices and dairy products? It’s one of the most vital issues of the industry. But the strategic stake on bottle market is no longer looks obvious to producers. The growing interest to PET film market has emerged and to polyether fibers market too. Both grades of PET are not yet manufactured in Russia but there are some investment ideas in these areas. Will they see the future in the country and what will be the demand they should met? Will brave investors ready to implement these projects appear? Answers for these questions will be found on upcoming conference too.
