EC sets RFID privacy code
Approximately 2.2 billion RFID tags were sold worldwide last year and a third of these tags were sold in Europe. Anticipating use of RFID tags to grow to five times the current level over the next 10 years, the European Commission (EC) is formally recommending a code of contact for companies using RFID tags. The code was designed to help safeguard citizens' privacy yet enable the quick expansion of the RFID technology.

Ford's new line of fuel-efficient commercial vehicles to be RFID-enabled
Ford expands use of RFID-enabled asset tracking technology in its vehicles' in-dash computers. The co.'s new light-duty van--The 2010 Transit Connect--uses the Tool Link system by DeWALT. As part of the Ford Work Solutions in-dash computer package, Tool Link allows a driver to scan the Transit Connect cargo area to verify that all necessary tools and inventory items have been loaded, prior to leaving for the jobsite or route.
