Pardon a flashback moment…some 10 years ago I performed contract work writing for Canmaker magazine based in the UK, so it was with more than a passing interest when a press release from Trivium Packaging crossed my virtual desk. It announced the aluminum packaging vendor had earned gold, silver, and two bronze awards in the global subscription-only publication’s 2020 Can of the Year Awards “that’s an international celebration of canmaking achievement” seen in a short slideshow gallery.

Ahead of that and as a little backgrounder, a recent market study from Mordor Intelligence’s offered several factoids:

  • The metal packaging market was valued at $138.1 billion in 2019 and is expected to reach $193.24 billion by 2025 at a CAGR of 4% over the forecast period;

  • Recyclability of metal packaging is a significant driver because both aluminum and steel are highly robust raw packaging materials due to the superior recycling infrastructure;

  • [Aluminum] packaging makes beverages easy to cool, are great for keeping the contents fresh, and prevent breakage even during on-the-go occasions.

It’s worth casting a spotlight on interesting aluminum developments in food, drink, and personal care product categories, beyond the modest personal interest. Credit for much of the following information is Josephine ter Mors, Trivium’s head of global communications.
