PACK EXPO Las Vegas 2013 (Sept. 23-25, Las Vegas Convention Center) will give attendees—an expected 26,000 manufacturing professionals—opportunities to learn more about the technologies they use every day in the workplace and also to gain insight into what's around the corner.
"We build PACK EXPO shows around the attendees—they're our customers, and they're our exhibitors' customers," says Jim Pittas, vp, tradeshows for PMMI, The Assn. for Packaging and Processing Technologies and owner/organizer of the show. "The whole customer-centric approach to PACK EXPO is based on meeting their needs. And among those needs are learning opportunities that fit their agendas."
Following in line with that, PMMI has changed the game this year by incorporating the educational sessions into the show floor experience. Results from a research study amongst attendees to the previous PACK EXPO revealed that attendees value learning just as much as they did seeing what is out there. However, any time spent away from the show floor was viewed as a negative from those who were surveyed. Also, earlier this month, Packaging Digest conducted its own poll with its LinkedIn Group and the results were the same, with a staggering 42 percent of participants saying they are looking forward to education the most at PACK EXPO Las Vegas.
Responding to this, PMMI has taken this feedback into consideration and attendees no longer have to shuffle back and forth from hall to hall, missing valuable time away from exhibiting booths—which include more than 1,600 processing and packaging solutions providers across 70,000 sq ft of exhibit space.
When traversing the exhibit floor, keep an eye out for one of several industry pavilions that are there to help you navigate your way towards the solutions that suit your needs best.
"Pavilions help attendees focus their time at PACK EXPO, giving them a starting point for finding the technologies they came for," says PMMI president/CEO Charles Yuska. "The lounges add a networking aspect, and having industry leading associations serving at the ‘ask the expert' desks, adds another layer of depth."
Inquiring minds can also find the Innovation Stage located on the show floor where they will be able to listen in on compelling subject matter from industry experts who are there to share their expertise and guidance. There are 40 free half hour segments from engineering, operations and cost-analysis experts from the Alliance for Innovation and Operational Excellence (AIOE) and consumer insight analysts from Mintel, to name a few. The Innovation Stage is located in the Central Hall, Booths C-141, C-142 and C-143.
Also, don't miss out on the newest kid on the block to PACK EXPO Las Vegas-Center for Trends and Technology. Here attendees will experience interactive displays and presentations—from leading companies like Cisco, Microsoft, Motorola Solutions, Spectrum, Jacobs Automation and Rockwell Automation—that aim to broaden the way you may think about productivity, efficiency and sustainability. This is located in the Central Hall, Booth C-1358.
Good times, good cause
On Mon., Sept. 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center will be a PACK gives BACK benefit reception open to all PACK EXPO registrants. The entertainment for the night will be the "King of the Movie Soundtrack," Kenny Loggins, who is known for such hits as "I'm Alright" from "Caddyshack," "Danger Zone" from "Top Gun" and the title track from 1984's "Footloose," which spent three weeks at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
All ticket proceeds are being donated to K9s for Warriors—a charitable organization dedicated to providing service dogs to military troops and veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress as a result of conflicts and war following 9/11. The program is comprised of three weeks' training and bonding for dogs and veterans at the K9s for Warriors facility in Ponte Vedra, FL. The majority of the dogs are obtained through rescue groups.
