Packaging Shrinkflation Strikes Again!
Another “celebrity” speaks up about the nefarious practice of shrinking products and/or packages without shrinking the price.
What do Cookie Monster and President Biden have in common? They both hate shrinkflation.
President Biden blasted the practice in an Instagram post on Super Bowl LVIII Sunday in February. He lamented that ice cream cartons “have shrunk in size, but not in price.” He took another shot, too, during the recent State of the Union.
Now, the popular Muppet character from the children’s TV show Sesame Street weighs in how he hates that cookies are getting smaller (can you blame him?).
Warning: Many of the responses to Cookie Monster’s post skew political, some quite nasty. But others do try to sympathize or explain what’s going on, like this one:
As I’ve said before, I understand the financial pressures that force companies to maintain profits however they can. But as a consumer, I, too, lament the seemingly lost buying power my dollars have.
We’d still love to hear from you on how you feel, as a packaging professional, about the practice of shrinkflation. Take this short poll to share your opinion and see what others say:
