International Paper completes Temple-Inland acquisition
International Paper Co. has announced it has completed its acquisition of Temple-Inland Inc. through the merger of its wholly owned subsidiary Metal Acquisition Inc. with and into Temple-Inland, which now is a wholly owned subsidiary of International Paper. Including the assumption of approximately $700 million in Temple-Inland net debt, the total transaction value is approximately $4.5 billion. International Paper chairman/CEO John Faraci says, "The combination of International Paper and Temple-Inland strengthens our North American packaging business and enhances our ability to generate cash flow while maintaining our strong balance sheet."
Sonoco lands three Sustainability Asset Management awards
Sonoco has been named SAM Gold Class for a second consecutive year by Sustainable Asset Management (SAM) in its Sustainability Yearbook 2012; the firm also was named SAM 2012 Sector Leader and SAM 2012 Sector Mover in the Containers and Packaging sector. The Sector Leader award is a distinction given to the company with its sector's highest sustainability score. SAM is an investment boutique focused on sustainability investing; each year, the organization invites the world's largest 2,500 companies, as reflected in the Dow Jones Global Total Stock Market Index, to participate in its Corporate Sustainability Assessment.
Tetra Pak opens Finnish packaging material factory
Tetra Pak has opened a new packaging material factory in Finland. The factory, located in the town of Imatra, with a planned capacity of 500 million packages per year, will expand Tetra Pak's gable top capacity for Northern Europe. The laminated paper board used to produce the packaging material comes from the Imatra paper mills, situated 6 km from the location of the new factory; the short distance will help reduce the CO2 emissions for the transportation of paperboard to the factory.
Pro Mach acquires Edson Packaging Machinery
Pro Mach Inc. has acquired Edson Packaging Machinery Ltd., a manufacturer of high-performance case packing equipment based in Hamilton, ON. Edson will join Pro Mach's End of Line Business Unit, which provides stand-alone equipment and integrated packaging line solutions for food, beverage, industrial products and consumer goods companies. Founded in 1962, Edson provides specialty packaging equipment, parts and service for companies requiring high-performance case and tray packing solutions.
Bosch Packaging Technology to acquire Japanese pharmaceutical business
Bosch Packaging Technology plans to acquire the machinery business companies of Eisai Co. Ltd., a pharmaceutical company based in Tokyo. Eisai machinery business companies specialize in inspection machinery for the pharmaceutical industry. In 2010, the companies generated sales of around 76 million euros (8.6bn JPY) with 120 associates worldwide. The machinery business has locations and service centers in Japan, Germany, North America and China. Its inspection technology is used in the area of liquid pharmaceuticals--with ampoules, pre-filled syringes, infusion bottles or vials, as well as in the production of solid pharmaceuticals such as tablets. In addition, the Eisai machinery companies sell packaging materials for pharmaceutical products, as well as pharmaceutical packaging machines from various manufacturers.
