Retail execs at PACK EXPO Las Vegas detail private-label success

The boom in the private-label sector continues as consumers re-examine their shopping habits and seek to stretch their dollars. Recent data from Mintel indicates that the U.S. private-label market grew 9.3 percent in 2008 (versus 4.5 percent for branded food sales) and forecasts that this market will grow another 8.1.

Retail execs detail private-label successes percent by the end of 2009. To help PACK EXPO attendees better understand the burgeoning private-label market and the opportunities associated with it, this year’s Conference at PACK EXPO keynote sessions will offer a unique perspective on private-label brands delivered by leading retail executives.

Today, Doug Palmer, vp, Own Brands with The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., provided insight into the evolution of store brands and examine evolving consumer
perceptions of private-label products.

Andrew Abraham, vp, Our Own Brands for Supervalu, will deliver tomorrow’s (Tuesday, 10/6) keynote address. Steve Ryder, store design and planning director, Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market, and Kevin O’Donnell, founder, thread collaborative, will present the closing keynote address on Wednesday.
