Old South Foods barbecue sauce

Old South Foods barbecue sauceOld South Foods, a contract packaging company specializing in food products, recently migrated two of its sauce brands from glass to PET. The migration constitutes Old South's first use of PET containers. What's more, the change is the first commercial adoption of Amcor's 16-oz hot-fill stock decanter.

The packaging conversion for Big Show Foods' John Boy and Billy's Grillin' Sauce brands reduces the shipping weight and breakage, while imparting a striking shelf presence similar to that of glass. According to Greg Peckham, plant manager for Old South Foods, it also has filling advantages.

"PET bottles are much easier to fill than glass, thus offering us greater accuracy in meeting proper volume measurements," he says.

The Amcor bottles are sourced from C.L. Smith, a St. Louis-based manufacturer and distributor of packaging products. The barbecue sauce products, available in four varieties-original, sweet and mild, hot and spicy, and eastern vinegar-are sold in supermarkets and big box retailers, including Walmart and Target, throughout the Southeast.
