LED make-up compact
Now in development, the LED Make-Up Compact uses Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology for a pack that is practical, original and leading edge. It features directional lighting to help consumers apply the product anywhere, no matter how dark the surroundings. Cool white light provides no harsh reflections, glare or shadows, making the experience of the product more sympathetic than when using the bright, unforgiving light of the average powder room. The LED light is intuitively switched on by pressing a soft touch button on the lid. The energy-efficient technology has low power requirements, is mercury free and avoids heat build-up.

Scented plastic cartons
A new Fresh Cotton scent was encapsulated into a hexagon-shaped APET folding carton for apparel marketer QSD, which develops maternity and post-maternity undergarments that help support and enhance a woman's figure. The customer chose a fresh cotton scent for its packaging because of the warm comfortable home feelings associated with fresh linens. The outer surface of the printed carton has a scented varnish applied, which gently releases the fragrance as consumers handle the package. If intentionally rubbed, the package will release more scent.

Recycle-friendly shrink label
EcoSkin, a polyolefin-based shrink film for labeling, supports the polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle-to-bottle recycling process by meeting Assn. for Post Consumer Plastics Recyclers (APR) guidelines. With a density below 1, EcoSkin floats in the PET recycling process, allowing it to be separated from recovered (RPET) material. Comparable to current shrink films, EcoSkin provides up to 60 percent shrink (transverse direction), and is able to conform to a range of container shapes and sizes, including plastic and glass bottles, aluminum and steel beverage cans, beaded metal cans and aerosol containers.

Braille shrink sleeve
A new shrink sleeve, developed in conjunction with the Clondalkin Pharma and Healthcare Div., incorporates braille into a single sleeve label. This new labeling adheres to recent European legislation which states that all products with a medical claim must incorporate braille on packaging. With shrink sleeve and braille in one, this new product reduces costs and improves shelf appeal.

Tear tape for cases
Rippatape tear tape, specifically developed for use on corrugated and fiberboard cases, provides easy opening and increases the compression strength of secondary packaging, reducing the product damage that can occur during transit. It does not impede the recycling process of the board. A product and packaging design consultancy group based at Sheffield Hallam University in the U.K. confirms the strengthening capabilities of Rippatape. The consultancy, Design Futures, used analysis and comparative compressive strength testing on boxes with and without Rippatape.

Clear in-mold label
New SuperClear in-mold labeling (IML) provides flexibility to create multiple IML looks with the same keyline. The super-transparent film leaves sections of the IML label lacquer-free to create a no-label look. No costs are required to reprogram the IML robot. By only printing on the upper part of the packaging, the technique can also create the illusion of a floating label.

Created for S.T. Dupont coffrets, the new finishing uses embossing and hot-stamped rivets and corners to give the product a sophisticated look while protecting the package underneath. Hot-stamping with relief amplifies the graphic effect, and the technique is possible on both PVC and PET with a thickness of up to 0.4mm.

A new polymer material for the igubal product line of plastic machine parts can be recognized by metal detectors. Both the housing and spherical balls of the igubal range are made from this detectable plastic, and standard metal detection systems can identify all potential plastic residues down to the smallest particles and select them for rejection. The self-adjusting bearings are manufactured from tribo-optimized polymers. Easy to install, the bearings adjust to all angular misalignments and can replace metallic components in many applications.
