Online shoppers overwhelmingly have a packaging preference, and it is contrary to the direction Amazon has taken.

Amazon recently invested heavily in artificial intelligence to help order fulfillment packers decide which shipping package to use — an envelope or a box — for a particular customer’s purchase. Replacing a bulky box with an envelope when possible has helped the mega-etailer reduce the weight of its outbound packages by one-third since 2015, saving 915,000 tons of packaging material worldwide or the equivalent of more than 1.6 billion shipping boxes.

But it turns out that a high percentage of ecommerce shoppers are quite happy with the box, and for some pretty good reasons, as this infographic shows.
