Sustainable packaging: EXPO PACK México to focus on sustainability

Sustainability related technologies continue to emerge as a trend across all aspects of the packaging and processing supply chain. From new bio-based materials to energy efficient power systems, sustainability is a priority for consumer goods companies. To support this trend, EXPO PACK México and PROCESA 2010 (June 22–25; Centro Banamex, Mexico City) introduce EXPO PACK Verde — a program to promote green solutions among industry suppliers, customers and visitors, to highlight and promote technology and solutions that support recycling, reuse and reduction of packaging.

EXPO PACK México and PROCESA 2010 — expected to be host to 25,000 packaging and processing professionals — will promote technologies and innovations that contribute to sustainable development, through EXPO PACK Verde (EXPO PACK Green). Based on the PACK EXPO Green program, EXPO PACK Verde represents a new opportunity for business. Participating exhibitors EXPO PACK Verde will display green technologies including sustainable packaging materials and energy-efficient machinery.

EXPO PACK Verde will highlight companies responding to sustainability oriented trends by promoting them in a micro Web site, listing the company information and green solution, placing an icon in floor plan signage in the show and in the exhibitors directory listing, and using EXPO PACK Verde signs in exhibitors’ booths to help visitors find them easily on the show floor. Companies that wish to participate in EXPO PACK Verde are required to fill out a form explaining the reasons why their technology is sustainable.

In addition to highlighting sustainable solutions from exhibitors, EXPO PACK México is responding to the sustainability trend by making changes to how it produces the event and implementing several environmentally-friendly tactics such as reducing printed media, more digital production, reducing the use of plastic badges, and choosing certified paper for printing promotional pieces.
