Sonoco-Alcore today announced it will raise prices on all paperboard sold in the United Kingdom, Scandinavia and Russia by 25 GBP, or 40 Euros, per ton effective with all shipments after October 27, 2008, it was announced today by Eddie L. Smith, vice president—Europe.

“Continued inflationary pressure, predominantly in energy and chemicals, has resulted in paperboard capacity being taken out of the market most recently in Finland, Italy, France and the U.K.,” said Smith. “Our business has maintained its commitment to reduce operating costs in order to offset this inflation, however, we are unable to continue to absorb all of these increases.”
