Graphic Packaging lays off 30 in West Virginia plant

Graphic Packaging International has cut approximately 30 jobs at its Wellsburg, WV flexible packaging plant, according to a story in regional newspaper The State Journal.

The plant employed roughly 150 before the cuts. "It's in response to reduced consumer demand as a result of the economic environment," Cindy Baerman, senior vice president of human resources told  The State Journal. "...Consumer demand for products at that facility is significantly down."

She also said the the layoffs weren’t driven by the state of the economy, but rather a part of the companies broader integration strategy.

The layoffs went into effect April 6 and are said to be permanent.
