futurethink Innovation Tip: Set a Foundation for Innovation

What are you saying about innovation? If you want your innovation efforts to be successful, everyone – both inside and outside your organization – needs to have a consistent idea about what innovation means for your company and what it will help you achieve. Without this basic foundation in place, innovation efforts are bound to fizzle out and ultimately falter.

In just a few sentences, try to encapsulate what innovation means for your organization. What will innovation do for your company? What makes ‘innovation’ different from ‘business-as-usual’? Pass your Innovation Statement around to colleagues and ask them to help you refine it. Once you’ve arrived at a clear, concise Statement, communicate it as part of your innovation strategy so that everyone is on the same page and the ideas you generate are aligned with your goals.
