The Strouse Corporation selected as converter for 3M’s new divisionThe Strouse Corporation is now an authorized converter for 3M’s Renewable Energy Division (RED). The division was created to supply adhesives, sealants, tapes and films to the rapidly expanding solar and wind energy markets. 3M has developed industry specific products that will improve performance, quality and reduce costs.The Strouse Corporation is located in Westminster, MD and is a certified Women’s Owned Business. It is also a 3M Preferred Converter and Master Masking Converter. Strouse supplies die cut adhesive components for the Solar, Electronics, Automotive, Defense, Medical and Appliance industries.

Ball announces sale of plastic pail plant and related assetsBall Corporation announced today the sale of its plastic pail assets to BWAY Corporation for approximately $32 million, subject to customary post-closing adjustments.The transaction largely involves the sale of a pail manufacturing plant in Newnan, Ga., which Ball acquired in 2006 as part of its purchase of U.S. Can Corporation. The plant produces injection molded plastic pails and drums for products such as building materials and pool chemicals. It employs approximately 110 people.The sale is expected to close by the end of October.


NewPage to take approximately 160,000 tons of
market-related downtime in fourth quarter 2009NewPage Corporation announced that it plans to take approximately 160,000 tons of market-related downtime in the fourth quarter of 2009. Specific operating and curtailment plans, as well as timing, are still being developed and will be implemented across the flexible NewPage mill system to best satisfy customer commitments. This plan is expected to include the indefinite shutdown of the No. 63 paper machine at the Whiting, Wisconsin mill.

Menlo Worldwide Logistics wins U.S. EPA SmartWay AwardMenlo Worldwide Logistics, the global logistics subsidiary of Con-way Inc. announced that it has received its first Environmental Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) SmartWay(SM) Transport Partnership.Menlo was honored by the EPA at an award presentation held in conjunction with American Trucking Associations' Annual Management Conference & Exhibit in Las Vegas. Menlo was one of 37 companies and organizations from among the more than 2,100 SmartWay partners to receive this distinction.

Additionally, Anthem received an American Graphic Design Award for its packaging design for Good Humor. The Pentawards were officially awarded October 2, 2009, during the Brussels Design Forum. 

Alcoa executive to discuss nanotechnology’s 
role in industry at Rusnanotech ‘09Alcoa announced that Dr. Mohammad A. Zaidi, executive vice president and chief technology officer – Alcoa, will discuss the role of nanotechnology in industry at Rusnanotech ’09, second international nanotechnology forum held in Moscow on Oct. 6.Dr. Zaidi will deliver his speech and take part in the panel discussion, “Nanotechnology in Manufacturing,” from 3 to 6:45 p.m. MSD tomorrow in Hall 3 of the Moscow Central Exhibition Complex Expocentre.

Kapstone Paper and Packaging Corporation elects 
Brian R. Gamache and David P. Storch as directorsKapStone Paper and Packaging Corporation announced that on October 1, 2009 the Board of Directors elected Brian R. Gamache and David P. Storch as Directors of the Company. Mr. Gamache was elected as a Class A director with a term expiring in 2010, and Mr. Storch was elected as a Class C director with a term expiring in 2012. The newly elected directors will receive the standard compensation received by non-employee directors. The compensation arrangements are disclosed in the Company's DEF 14 filed on April 15, 2009.Mr. Gamache, age 50, serves as the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of WMS Industries. Under Mr. Gamache's leadership, WMS was named one of the fastest growing companies in the United States by Fortune. Additionally, the Wall Street Journal ranked WMS in the Top 20 publicly-traded companies in compound annual return over the past decade. Mr. Gamache serves as a board member of the American Gaming Association and a Trustee of Lake Forest Academy. He holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Florida.Mr. Storch, age 56, is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of AAR, a leading provider of diverse products and value-added services to the worldwide aviation/aerospace industry. Mr. Storch serves on the boards of The Executive Club of Chicago and the Chicago Urban League. He currently is a member of the Chicago 2016 Olympic Committee, the Economics Club of Chicago, the World Presidents' Organization and the Wings Club. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Ithaca College.


PakSense announces Temperature Label Recycling ProgramPakSense Inc., an innovator in sensory solutions for packaging, announced today at the Produce Marketing Association annual convention the launch of PakSense GreenSense. PakSense GreenSense is a recycling program that facilitates the return of PakSense temperature monitoring labels for proper battery and component recycling.
