TerraCycle expands to Europe and UKTerraCycle, a world leader in the field of 'up-cycling' where difficult to recycle waste material is turned into affordable, eco-friendly products, will announce at a reception attended by the Mayor of London in New York, it has chosen London as the location to expand into the UK and Europe. Think London, the foreign direct investment agency for London, worked together with UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) to further strengthen London's position as a centre of excellence for sustainable businesses.The announcement in New York coincides with Think London and UKTI's North American business roadshow entitled the 'Route to 2012'. The roadshow is aimed at highlighting the business opportunities open in London to North American companies, especially around the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.

The Print Council issues “Call to Action” 
on behalf of the printing industryAs The Print Council announces its latest initiatives – Print Delivers and Why Print is Green – its members are “lining up” with financial and in-kind support for these projects, as well as for the Print in the Mix (PIM) research clearinghouse.The Print Council released its Why Print is Green brochure on September 15th at Print ‘09. This new report describes 10 specific ways in which print is green – from the responsible products used, renewable energy sourced, increased recycling rates, improved design and delivery methods. The report is intended for use by printers and designers to demonstrate to their customers why print media is the environmentally sound choice for communicating with the audiences they want to reach.In addition, The Print Council announced that it has renewed the grant for Print in the Mix, the clearinghouse of print market research, for an additional two years. 


Lpack Becomes Airworks®, will concentrate on the development
of air-based packaging solutionsLpack, formerly the packaging systems group of the Hanns Loersch GmbH & Co KG, recently announced that it has changed its name to Airworks®. The company manufactures HDPE films and machines used by its customers to produce air pillows that protect products during shipping. Lpack branded products had already been successfully serving the European and North American packaging markets for over 10 years before the name change. Airworks® will become the new global brand for all company activities. The new brand will be launched at the Fachpack '09 trade show (September 29 -October 1 in Nuremberg, Germany) and PackExpo '09 trade show (October 5-7 in Las Vegas, Nevada).

Wise Metals Group completes multi-year agreement
with Anheuser-Busch InBevWise Metals Group has completed a multi-year agreement to supply Anheuser-Busch InBev (A-BI) beginning in 2010. Wise is now capable of producing 14-out can sheet after widening their three-stand and installing a new wide slitter.In a separate transaction Wise Metals Group and Anheuser-Busch Recycling Corporation (A-BRC) have completed a multi-year agreement in which A-BRC will supply 100% of Wise Metals’ UBC scrap requirements to the can sheet rolling mill which Wise Metals operates in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. In the world of recycling, Wise is one of the largest processors of Used Beverage Can Scrap. 


Bemis Company provides update regarding proposed acquisition
of Alcan Packaging Food AmericasBemis Company, Inc. today announced that late yesterday it received a request for additional information and documentary material, often referred to as a “Second Request,” from the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) in connection with its Hart-Scott-Rodino regulatory review of Bemis’ proposed acquisition of the Food Americas operations of Alcan Packaging from Rio Tinto plc, announced on July 5, 2009. Bemis will continue to work cooperatively with the DOJ and expects the transaction to close by the end of 2009.

Strathcona Paper receives Chain of Custody certification

Ricoh announces new partnership with

Paperboard Packaging Council announces 67th annual
National Paperboard Packaging competitionConverters are invited to take their best cartons off the shelf and into the spotlight as they vie for the industry-best awards for superior package design as part of the Paperboard Packaging Council’s (PPC) 67th annual National Paperboard Packaging Competition.Each entry in this year’s competition has the opportunity to compete in three categories.
