The combibloc EcoPlus aseptic carton pack for liquid food uses a new type of composite structure, comprised of a special unprocessed form of cardboard, a new, ultra-thin polyamide layer acts as a barrier to protect against flavor impairment and external odors, and fine internal and external layers of PE. According to an independent lifecycle assessment conducted by the Institut für Energie- und Umwelt-forschung (IFEU/Institute for Energy and Environmental Research), the new packaging is substantially more eco-friendly than a 1-L carton pack of the same format. Specifically, the research notes a 28 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emitted through the package's complete lifecycle.
