Biaxially oriented PET shortage easing

A new report from PCI Films Consulting finds the global biaxially oriented PET (BoPET) shortage has eased to the point that supplies are now plentiful, and new capacity coming on stream before 2015 will ensure that the uncertainties of 2010 will not return in the short to medium term.

The report--World BOPET Film Market Trends Statistical Update 2011-uses global data gathered from manufacturers, users and machinery suppliers to provide analysis of the current status of the BoPET market in addition to forecasts for thin and thick BOPET film markets until 2015.

The report states that the Indian government's decision to ban BoPET laminate packaging will further improve supply, and substantial new investment is planned by the emerging global players based in India and China. Flexible packaging continues to be the main driver for the BoPET film industry, accounting for 54 percent of the total, and with prospects for continuing growth of around 8.5 percent per annum, though there will continue to be substantial regional variations in growth rate.
