Housed in a 250 mL transparent, stand-up pouch is Dolphin smart drinking, spring water from a company-owned source given certification by the Dutch government. The new packaging— the DolphinSmartpack— was developed jointly by water supplier Dolphin and Dutch packager Smartpack Intl BV (www.smart-pack.eu).
They claim that the DolphinSmartpack is an eco-friendly alternative for portable water consumption as it is light, easy to use, and recyclable. The 250ml size, says SmartPack, is ideal for school, vending-machines, gas stations and public events.
The Dolphin Smartpack’s closure design also makes the packaging suitable for use during sports, dancing and other activities, such as driving. The package uses a patented tear-and-sip closure instead of an attached spout that can drip. The pouch also is aimed at the youth market because it enables children to drink water without spilling.
After the Dolphin water is consumed, only a small, flat piece of film remains. This increases the sustainability of the package as there is less material to be sent to landfills. Additionally, the package design does not require separate label application and associated eco-impacts.
