Refreshed, clean look debuts for iconic laundry detergent brand

Wisk laundry detergen tis hitting stores shelves with a bold new look. To create the new design, Wisk’s brand owner, The Sun Products Corp., commissioned the services of Little Big Brands (www.littlebigbrands.com). The new packaging aims to preserve the essence of the iconic brand while providing a canvas to highlight Wisk’s new ‘Stain Spectrum Technology.’

Overall, the design was distilled down and each element addressed for relevancy, current equity and impact. Bottle and label are rich reds, and the label itself uses several reds to integrate seamlessly into the structure. The logo was redrawn and maximized in perspective form. The new white logo is designed to offer high shelf-impact.

Little Big Brands uses reflective foil to add to the premium appearance and strengthen cleaning cues. It also stripped unnecessary copy, drop shadows and fluorescent colors out of the packaging design, which Little Big Brands says made the previous design feel heavy and dated. Remaining copy was reset in modern typography.

Little Big Brands emphasizes that the new packaging design embraces the brand’s heritage and strengthens the brand’s presence with red HDPE bottles and in-mold labeling done by Multi Color Corp. (www.mcclabel.com).

AH Puur & Eerlijk Rondeeleieren Stuks Class A Free-Range Eggs
This unusual egg packaging concept hails from Holland. Made from a fibrous material, source unknown, the compression-formed circular container holds seven AH Puur & Eerlijk Rondeeleieren Stuks Class A Free-Range Eggs from Rondeel, an egg producer in Barneveld.

Similar in structure to clamshell packaging, the fiber container is cleverly designed to neatly clip closed and securely hold product.  A printed band offers tamper-evidence and conveys nutritional information to consumers. To help identify the product, the package sports a flexo-printed label with four-color photography of an egg and chickens in an agricultural setting. The label is decoratively shaped from self-adhesive paper.

This blend of descriptive labeling and an inventive concept offers differentiation from other egg packaging on the shelf, while still clearly articulating the package’s contents.

Modern, metal packaging performs
The Bosch IXO 4 cordless power tool is housed in a metal package that combines elegant decoration with convenient design and performance. Developed by Crown Specialty Packaging Europe, a div. of Crown Holdings Inc. (www.crowncork.com), the tin package uses a combination of Crown’s embossing and de-bossing decorative technology. The result is an award-winning package that is easily differentiated on a shelf. (Crown Specialty Packaging Europe was honored at the Starpack 2010 Industry Awards with a Gold Award in the Consumer category for this package.)

The tin features a wave-like design separating the body of the container from the uniquely shaped lid. Once opened, the customer can easily access the tool and its accessories. The Bosch logo is embossed on the front of the tin next to a picture of the power tool itself, representing a seal of quality for the product; the other side of the tin features information for the consumer in detailed text, which is enhanced by the contrast of color from the shiny metal surface of the tin. Packaging inserts were utilized to ensure full protection of the product during transport.

Crown says the packaging shows that innovation and sustainability can go hand-in-hand as the metal is 100 percent recyclable and permanently reusable without any loss of or alteration in quality.

‘Natural’ choice for packaging cleaners
Natures Organics has selected Cardia Bioplastics Ltd. (www.cardiabioplastics.com) as its partner to environmentally package its Earth Choice and Purity laundry products and Organic Care personal care products. Cardia Biohybrid™ proprietary technology combines renewable thermoplastics with polyolefin material to reduce dependence on finite oil resources and to reduce carbon footprint.

Natures Organics’ managing director Justin Dowel says that the biohybrid bottles continue the company’s strong track record of using eco-conscious packaging. “We were the first in Australia to produce 100 percent recycled PET bottles for household cleaning products, and we use bioplastics across our Organic Care range.”
