The new Freedom™ Series of small-bottle blow molders has been developed to produce compostable bottles made from preforms constructed of NatureWorks® PLA, or polylactide resin, which is a corn-based plastic developed by NatureWorks LLC. The blow molder is capable of producing bottles at 1,500, 3,000 or 4,500 bottles/hr, depending on the bottle size and the blow molder model used. Originally designed for blowing PET bottles, the Freedom Series machines have been specifically adapted to handle the special characteristics of PLA. This includes a preheat temperature of only 75 deg C, as opposed to the 100 deg C required for PET.
