Sonoco-Alcore to Increase European Paperboard Prices
January 29, 2014
Sonoco-Alcore S.a.r.l. will increase prices for all uncoated recycled paperboard grades in all European markets by 50 Euro, or £40, per metric ton on all shipments effective March 8, 2010.
“Harsher than normal winter weather has also impacted the supply of recovered paper in Europe, and mills in all of the recycled paperboard markets are running full with low levels of finished stock.”
“The cost of recovered paper has doubled over the past three quarters, which is a reflection of increased fiber demand around the globe,” said Eddie L. Smith, vice president, Sonoco-Alcore Europe. “Harsher than normal winter weather has also impacted the supply of recovered paper in Europe, and mills in all of the recycled paperboard markets are running full with low levels of finished stock.”
“Because of the rapid rise in recovered paper prices, we must begin to recoup our costs in our coreboard, partition board and other uncoated recycled products,” Smith added. “We recognize there is never a good time for a price increase. We will continue to do all we can to control costs, but we simply can no longer absorb these increased raw material prices.”
