Packaging Digest honored by leading publishing association

Packaging Digest this week has been honored with several top awards by one of publishing’s leading trade organizations, the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE).

Each year, ASBPE recognizes exceptional business, trade, and specialty press publications with its annual Awards of Excellence, given on both a regional and national basis.

Packaging Digest places a high emphasis on its magazine covers because they reflect the importance that the industry places on packaging design and functionality,” says editorial director, John Kalkowski. “Our readers look to Packaging Digest to showcase the best packaging examples so they can use them in brainstorming their own new products.”

The Gold Award-winning cover was “Go for the Gold,” from the July 2008 edition of Packaging Digest, featuring Budweiser packaging for the Beijing Olympics. The Silver Award winner was the “Tea Time” cover featuring China Mist Tea, from the December 2008 issue.

The covers were created by Packaging Digest art director Lora Lee Gelles, photographer T.J. Hines, and Kalkowski.

Packaging Digest was also honored with a Silver national award for its 2008 PACK EXPO Show Daily -- the fourth straight year the Show Daily has won an award from the ASBPE.

“It’s important that a trade publication like Packaging Digest keeps a finger on the pulse of the industry,” says Kalkowski. “That’s why we work hard to conduct research relevant to our readers and monitor the trade shows that serve as a wellspring of innovation for packagers.”
