PMMI is warming up for the second edition of The Amazing Packaging Race, taking place on Sept. 28 at PACK EXPO Las Vegas 2011 (Las Vegas Convention Center, Sept. 26-28). The fun, educational event for packaging students is conducted by PMMI's educational arm, PMMI U, and is sponsored by ASCO Numatics. Students will get a head start in their packaging careers by racing through the show floor to meet as many exhibitors as possible.

PMMI's Amazing Packaging Race is a great opportunity to introduce students to packaging and processing exhibitors, notes Maria Ferrante, PMMI's vp of education and workforce development. "By participating in the race we hope students will learn about the industry and connect with potential employers," Ferrante says.

Last year's edition of the Amazing Packaging Race attracted 38 students and 27 exhibitors. Ferrante and her team hope to exceed last year's numbers. Teams are made up of four students from different packaging programs. Students have fun engaging with their peers, and the exhibitors benefit as well.

"While taking part in the race, students meet exhibitors and learn about the types of products these manufacturers offer. It is a great opportunity for exhibitors to build their future-customer and their future-employee base. These students are the industry's future and will determine where this industry will go," Ferrante says.

Students earn points for tasks accomplished at participating exhibitor booths. At the end of the timed competition, the team with the most points wins. Each member of the winning team will receive an iPad 2.
