Nominations open for Packaging Hall of Fame

PMMI, owner and producer of PACK EXPO Intl. 2012 (McCormick Place, Chicago; Oct. 28-31), announces a call for nominations to the Packaging Hall of Fame Class of 2012.

"Being received into the Packaging Hall of Fame is among the highest honors a packaging professional can achieve—an honor that's magnified by the fact that nominees' names are submitted by their peers and vetted by a commission of industry leaders," says Maria Ferrante, vp, education & workforce development, PMMI.

PMMI will accept nominations for the honor, which it has administered since 1971, through June 25. (Criteria and submission guidelines are below.)

Inductees will be recognized at a reception in their honor on Oct. 30, 2012, at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, Chicago, during PACK EXPO Intl. 2012.

"The individuals inducted into the Packaging Hall of Fame are the most well-regarded in their fields. They are innovators and entrepreneurs who have changed how products are packaged and transported; they're the educators who make this field come alive for engineering and design students," Ferrante says.

Submit up to 1,500 words describing how the nominee has fulfilled the criteria below:

• Personally advanced the science, technology and practice of packaging: Please cite scientific inquiries, technologies advanced, patents received, etc.

• Expanded packaging knowledge and the understanding of packaging: Please cite significant roles played in packaging education, research, market analyses, published works, etc.

• Been a remarkable volunteer leader in the packaging community: Please cite leadership roles played in packaging associations/organizations and the groups' accomplishments during the nominee's tenure.

Nominations must be submitted online at www.pmmi.org/PHOFnomination and will be accepted through June 25, 2012.

Nominations should include a recent, color headshot of the nominee in one of the following formats: .jpg, .eps, .tif.

Any industry professional may nominate a candidate, and candidates may be nominated posthumously.
