Working with Alcan Packaging, Guerlain has relaunched its Terracotta compact with an updated design created by Ora Ïto. This is the designer’s second creation for Guerlain after the Idylle fragrance.

While the packaging design conveys a sleek, sophisticated look with its gentle lines, it actually comprises a complex, three-part lid design assembled by ultrasound welding: 1) a thick, transparent SAN lens with gold hot stamping between the amber varnish, which brings out the Guerlain name in calligraphic style, and an upper transparent UV varnish; 2) a brown, metal-finish platform with an embossed, off-center orange silk-screened double G; and 3) a hinge ring is made from brown metal-finish polycarbonate polybutylene acrylonitrile butadiene styrene.

The base, also brown metal-finished, is over-molded to comply with the solid part’s perfect geometry; and the closure protects the bulk but is also more flowing, with magnets located in the lid and in the base.
