The strength of the human mind never ceases to amaze me. And the ability of seemingly ordinary objects to tap into unexpected recesses of that power is staggering.

Take for instance the recent item circulating around the internet about Old Spice ‘Matterhorn’ deodorant. I’ll let blogger Ricky Brigante explain the phenomenon — at unofficial Disney website Inside the Magic he writes:

“A new Old Spice deodorant scent is attracting Disney fans solely based on a loose connection to a classic Disneyland attraction. The tagline written on Old Spice’s new Matterhorn scent reads ‘smells like ice, wind & freedom,’ but some consumers aren’t concerned with the actual fragrance as much the fact that the product’s name immediately evokes images and memories of the popular Matterhorn Bobsleds attraction at Disneyland.”

Wow. A deodorant package conjuring up memories of a day at a theme park? That’s some crazy power in a design!
