Biomass packaging

Biomass packaging

NPulp straw-pulp technology uses a chemical process that converts a naturally abundant resource (straw) into pulp for paper making, a process that reportedly requires less energy and reduces the amount of greenhouse gases produced, according to its manufacturer. Through bio-pulping-a proprietary enzymatic process that eliminates the use of harsh chemicals when converting straw to straw pulp-the manufacturer will tap into the more than 600 million tons of agricultural straw biomass available in China. NPulp can be used to produce corrugate board, molded cushion packaging and other conventional paper packaging products.

Printed metallic film laminate

Printed metallic film laminate

Laminating printed metallic film onto an APET base expands the opportunity for creating eye-catching designs. A solvent-free lamination process means the product range can offer highly personalized designs suitable for packaging applications such as ice cream containers, confectionery trays and trays for sushi. Unlike traditional in-line hot lamination, the off-line and solvent-free method is said to enable lamination of a variety of materials in different applications.

Water-based black ink

BK651 black ink for thermal inkjet was developed specifically to withstand the rigors of the pharmaceutical market. Samples of 2D data matrix codes printed with BK651 ink were tested against samples produced using other market-leading inks to assess fading characteristics. The results concluded that, of the samples provided to PIRA, this water-based black ink maintained a grade A through to Blue Wool 4 and softened to a grade B at Blue Wool 5.
