Films
The Pentalabel® film product line has been extended to include Pentalabel PETG for shrink-label packaging. This film solution provides brand owners the high shelf impact of full-body shrink sleeves for their high-volume applications, says the co. Pentalabel roll-sleeve films can be used for full- or partial-body coverage with a wide array of container configurations. By using Pentalabel roll-sleeve films, brand owners can achieve the same 360-deg graphics of shrink-sleeve films with the high efficiency and speed of roll-on and paper labels according to the co. These films are engineered to be processed on existing roll-fed label machinery with minimal additional investment. Greater shrinkage properties ensure smooth seams and the ability to shrink to simple and multiple contour containers made of plastic, glass or metal to provide design flexibility

Copolyester resin
The new Aspira™ EN177 copolyester allows increased design and processing opportunities for large-volume refrigerated beverage, spirit and dairy handleware applications manufactured on high-output platforms, says the co. Designed to provide a high-quality aesthetic, EN177 offers gloss and glasslike clarity to increase package shelf appeal. Additionally, the co. says the design freedom and strength of Aspira EN177 enhance the product appearance and user experience by permitting ergonomic and intricately designed containers. The material allows designers to create containers with functional handles and volumes of 60 oz and larger in ways previously unachievable with other materials.

Thermoplastic compound
New 20000 Series compounds feature a blend of thermoplastic starch (TPS) and biodegradable copolyester (PBAT) that degrades more rapidly than the copolyester alone. This is said to broaden packaging possibilities for blown and cast film, sheet, and thermoformed and injection molded parts intended for composting. With TPS content ranging up to 40 percent, Terraloy™ 20000 Series compounds have passed the ASTM D6400 test for plastics intended for composting in aerobic facilities. The co. recommends the compounds for replacing polyolefins and PS in applications such as shrink wrap, produce wraps and cosmetics jars and containers.

Resins
Two new PP3™ random copolymer grades offer customers superior aesthetics at an affordable price point, says the co. Besides giving products a dramatically brighter and cleaner look, Pinnacle 5135C3 and 5155C3 resins are said to enable shorter cooling times and a broader processing window, which can provide energy savings and cycle time reductions. The co. says Millad® NX8000 technology from Milliken Chemical plays a key role in these resins’ improved characteristics. NX8000 helps Pinnacle PP3 resins achieve a very low yellowness index rating of -15 compared to -2.5, which is typical of standard clarified PP. As a result, storage containers and other housewares merchandize better because they look brighter and fresher on store shelves, according to the co. Pinnacle 5135C3 and 5155C3 resins are FDA approved for food contact and are suitable for food packaging.

Molding bead
EcoSix molding bead has been certified by Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) as composed of 60 percent recycled content. SCS certification ensures that this molding bead meets specific standards and guidelines as dictated by the Federal Trade Commission for environmental marketing claims. EcoSix is well-suited for producing wine shippers, protective packaging, and many other shape molded products, says the co.

HDPE resin
New SB 1461 resin is designed for food packaging applications. This development, specially designed for the injections stretch blow molding (ISBM) market offers easy processing on standard ISBM machines, allowing converters to reach a wide range of applications. Trials with HDPE SB 1461 on ISBM equipment have been performed with positive results; bottle throughput of around 1700 bottles/cavity/hour and higher were easily reached with an excellent thickness distribution. HDPE grade SB 1461 combines smooth injection molding into preforms, with outstanding melt strength for the stretching/blowing phase, says the co.
