NSF International receives both NSF Bottled Water Certification
and SQF CertificationNSF International today announced that Premium Waters, Inc. is the first company to receive both NSF Bottled Water Certification and Level 3 Safe Quality Food (SQF) Certification, says the company. Sonoco-Alcore to Increase European Paperboard PricesSonoco-Alcore S.a.r.l. announced it will raise prices by 40 Euro or £30 per metric ton on all recycled paperboard grades in Europe. The price change is effective with shipments on or after September 14, 2009.According to Eddie L. Smith, vice president—Sonoco Europe, the price increase is necessary to manage higher costs associated with recovered paper and energy, as well as significantly reduced inventories of coreboard across Europe.
BWAY Corporation acquires Central Can CompanyBWAY Corporation, the principal operating subsidiary of BWAY Holding Company, has acquired all of the outstanding shares of Central Can Company, a U.S. producer of rigid general line metal and plastic containers.Central Can Company, located in Chicago, IL, operates one plant producing metal paint and specialty cans, steel pails, and hybrid and all plastic paint cans. Annual sales for Central Can Company are approximately $68 million.
Envirotainer uses Apport and Memnon network applications

Envirotainer has entered a multiyear cooperation agreement with Memnon Network Applications to use the Apport platform as its container booking and transport management solution. The platform will initially be launched to a small group of customers in September 2009.

FTA announces 2010 Excellence in Flexography
awards competition call for entries
Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) is now accepting entries for its 2010 Excellence in Flexography Awards Competition. The entry submission deadline is January 8, 2010.Judging is set to take place in January 2010, with all winners announced at the Awards Banquet, held during the Foundation of FTA’s Annual Forum & INFO*FLEX Exhibition, May 2-5, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Judging is based on the degree of difficulty pertaining to: substrate printability/ink compatibility; registration tolerance; fineness of print and/or screen; tonal range; defect detectability; added difficulty; and the accuracy to fully assess the difficulty and execution of the entry. Additional elements judged are: image sharpness; ink coverage; registration; dot/screen/vignette quality; and consistency.The deadline to submit entries is Jan. 8, 2010. Entries must have been created between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2009. This measure is due to continually increasing raw materials costs.Styrolux is BASF’s trademark for a portfolio of clear styrene-butadiene copolymers used in injection molding and extrusion thermoplastic applications that offer outstanding clarity, exceptional toughness and low density. Styrolux is used for medical applications, food service products, such as thermoformed clear drinking cups and plates, shrink labels, film wrap, toys and household appliances. Styroclear is a line of injection-molding resins for premium-quality, clear garment hangers.
