Sonoco acquires Associated Packaging Technologies, Inc.
Sonoco has completed the acquisition of Associated Packaging Technologies, Inc. (APT), North America’s largest manufacturer and supplier of Crystallized Polyethylene Terepthalate (CPET) containers to the frozen food industry. Founded in 1993, APT is a leading provider of dual-ovenable, food packaging serving the frozen food industry in North America, Europe and Australia/New Zealand. The Company operates four state-of-the-art CPET thermoforming manufacturing facilities in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada; Chillicothe, Missouri; Waynesville, North Carolina; and Carrickmacross, Ireland, and employs more than 400 workers. In addition to being able to manufacture approximately 3 billion CPET containers annually, APT has monolayer and multilayer barrier polypropylene container capabilities. The company also is a pioneer in the development of recycled PET (RePET) frozen food trays.

SCA’s divestment of its Asian packaging operation is completed.
The finalizing of the transaction follows approval by the relevant competition authorities. The transaction will not result in any capital gain or loss.
 
Connecticut Metal Industries expands packaging recycling operations to Atlanta area
The Connecticut Metal Industries (CMI), a New England-based packaging recycling firm, is expanding its operations into the Atlanta area. CMI has specialized in premier recycling solutions for the packaging industry for over 25 years recovering foil, laminator, paper and films. CMI prides itself on its unique capability to recover aluminum from paper and polymer foil laminates. Servicing the southern United States, the facility will cater to small to medium-sized packaging companies. It is actively searching for scrap packaging from foil laminators, printers and packaging companies in the southeast. CMI is particularly interested in metal foil and foil laminates, paper rolls and edge trim and metal and plastic containers.
