New packaging tech from Körber Medipak available at Pharmapack North America

Körber Medipak Systems will be featuring its new technologies from Seidenader at Pharmapack North America on June 9-10 in New York, including its high voltage leak detection for vials and syringes as well as headspace analysis for lyophilized product and powders. It is the company’s second year attending and it will be located at booth 4151.

“We are prepared to present our various technologies for pharma packaging,” Mike DeCollibus, president for Körber Medipak Systems North America, tells PMP News. “We will have sample packaging solutions and case studies to respond to attendees’ area of interest. We can also discuss our solutions for serialization from Seidenader and MES from Werum.”

Container integrity is one of the major concerns when it comes to patient safety, according to Körber. Invisible leaks like cracks or pinholes in the container, as well as the potential for needles of prefilled syringes to penetrate needle shields, could put sterility of product and needle at risk, and thus endanger patients and medical staff alike. Seidenader’s high-voltage inspection stations and machines are designed to meet those concerns.

In addition to the new technologies in leak detection and headspace analysis, DeCollibus says Körber will be featuring upgrades for stick packs and top-load cartoning of parenterals.

“Our focus remains on pharma and biotech packaging operations,” he said. “This includes integration of full lines from inspection, labeling, packaging through to case packing, and palletizing with fully aggregated serialization up to plant-wide MES systems.”

Cleints are asking for efficient small lot production with highly flexible and modular solutions that can adapt to new products and packaging presentations, DeCollibus notes.

“Körber Medipak Systems will continue to build the capacity to provide fully integrated and leading-edge technologies for pharma and biotech manufacturing,” he says.

The company’s recent acquisition of Werum and the development of its serialization business from Seidenader has expanded its turnkey capability for the customers. DeCollibus says Körber’s packaging solutions have developed in pace with the new requirements of expensive specialty biotech and pharmaceutical drugs that “tend to be very expensive and sensitive to handling and environmental conditions.”

“These new products demand the highest possible OEE with minimal, if any, damage or rejection throughout the packaging process,” he says. “Körber Medipak Systems solutions led the industry in providing this level of quality and control.”
