IPACK-IMA 2012 expands into package printing, continues food safety social commitment

IPACK-IMA 2012, scheduled from Feb. 28 to March 3 at the Fiera Milano exhibition center in Milan, Italy, is expanding into package printing. The new Package Printing segment joins the trade show’s traditional machinery, technology and materials exhibits in processing, packaging and material handling.

IPACK-IMA 2012 will also continue to address pressing social issues of food safety and security with the International Food Safety and Security Conference. The program -- themed "More technology, safety and quality, less world hunger” -- will deal with technology as a means of ensuring food sustainability and safety.

IPACK-IMA started this multi-year social campaign in 2009 and it has developed with the support of the United Nations’ food agencies, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the World Food Programme (WFP). The campaign was strengthened in 2010 with the "IPACK-IMA days: Technology for Food Safety,” a conference held in Bologna, Italy. And in 2011, the commitment to social development will be carried on with a technological symposium held in Africa, addressing the issues connected with Food Safety/Food Security.

“These prestigious partnerships with UNIDO and WFP bear testimony to IPACK-IMA’s primary importance on the global scene,” said Ipack-Ima Spa CEO Guido Corbella. “Today, technology can play a crucial role in the development of the world’s disadvantaged countries, especially in terms of ensuring the populations’ basic necessities such as food safety and security. The lack of effective packaging is the primary cause of the deterioration or loss of 60 percent of the food produced worldwide. IPACK-IMA represents a critical source of expertise which we are proud to share with leading international organizations.”

IPACK-IMA 2012 plans to feature 1,400 exhibitors -- 29 percent from outside of Italy -- displaying technology for both foods and non-foods. Referred to as the “IPACK-IMA Business Community,” the target markets are Grain Based Food, Dairy Products, Beverage, Confectionary, Vegetables & Fruit, Fresh and Convenience Food, Health and Personal Care, Chemicals (industrial and home) and Industrial & Durable Goods.

IPACK-IMA attendees come from every corner of the world. The 2009 edition registered 54,000 visitors from 116 countries.
